The Bert Hinkler Air Race Medallion was commissioned by CSR Limited and was first presented to the Premier the Right Honourable Sir Joh Bjelke-Petersen. The Medallion was instigated to commemorate the Bert Hinkler Air Race. The Air Race was part of the Australian Bicentenary celebrations in 1988.

 

The medallion was presented to Sir Joh in Brisbane on 24th June 1987.

Upon commissioning sketches were prepared and the final design finally selected. The plaster was then sculptured to facilitate the master mould for the casting foundry. The final medallion was cast in pewter.
