Arguably the torrid years of the War in the Pacific saw many ‘country towns’ in Australia become cities and many villages become towns. In short the country struggled into adulthood. It remains a blight upon the heritage industry that so many extant remains of this pivotal era in Australia’s history has been and continues to be destroyed without as much as a second thought. Volumes have been written on the historical. | Michael is also a qualified Graphics and Industrial Designer. He has designed many of Australia’s investment and circulation coins. He acted as the design consultant to the Australian Bicentennial Authority and the coinage and medallion designs accepted featured historical, folkloric and traditional Australian themes. He was awarded a Churchill Fellowship in 1983 and is an internationally acclaimed sculptor and an accomplished musician. Sculptural exhibitions presented from 1979 to 1988 depicted characters from Australia's history, traditional music, poetry and folklore. Prior to a professional career and research in archaeology Michael was a qualified Graphics and Industrial Designer and has designed many of Australia’s investment and circulation coins. Michael acted as the design consultant and historic advisor to the Australian Bicentennial.
Sculptural exhibitions presented from 1979 to 1988 depicted characters from Australia's history, traditional music, poetry and folklore. ‘Pioneers’, presented in London in 1981 was his first exhibition in the U.K. Michael has had considerable experience in lecturing, teaching and publication and is a qualified marine archaeologist. He is an accomplished musician and sportsman holding gold medals for National Championship target archery. | Commissioned by the Royal Australian Mint and the Australian Bicentennial Authority following sculptural exhibition in London, to design the official medallion collection for the Australian Bicentenary. Designed or participated in the design of eight similar medallions for the Authority and the Mint. Commissioned to design and sculpt the 1988 Bicentennial fifty~cent coin, which subsequently won the 'Best International Trade Coin' from 142 participating mints in 1988. The award was presented at the International Numismatic Board in London in 1990 on behalf of Krause Publications. In the same year won the commission and sculpted the design for the Monnaie de Paris, France, Franco~Australian commemorative medallion.
